Hermès for a June wedding

A wedding at Cap-Ferrat in late June is not the same wedding as one in Brooklyn in late June, and dressing for it isn't either. Temperature matters less than humidity. Light matters less than when the ceremony starts. Hermès understands this in the way houses that chase trend don't — the maison builds for variables, not for a single platonic ideal of summer.

June weddings split four ways: the garden ceremony that starts at three and runs into evening, the city hall lunch that stays indoors, the beach club event where sand is inevitable, and the formal dinner under a tent. Each one asks for different weight, different coverage, different shoes. Here's how to answer.

The Garden Ceremony, 3pm Start

You need breathability and a sleeve that won't cling by cocktail hour. Start with Hermès' linen shirt-dress in écru or sand — the one with the concealed placket and the cuff that buttons twice. It's cut to skim, not hug. The linen they use has enough body to hold its shape through humidity but enough give to let air through.

Pair it with the flat Oran sandal in gold. Not the heeled version. Garden grass and four hours on your feet don't negotiate. Try the long-sleeve silk shirt in a bold print, something from the archives or the current season's scarves-turned-fabric. Tuck it into wide-leg trousers in navy or charcoal. The maison's tailored trouser has a waistband that sits just under the navel and a break that's clean but not cropped. You want the full drape.

The Kelly 28 in black Box calf works here. It's formal without reading evening. Carry it in-hand, not on the shoulder. Shoes: the Constance pump in patent leather, mid-heel. You'll be sitting for most of it, but the walk from car to venue matters.

Gold hardware across the board. City Hall has marble and echo. You want warmth against that.

The Beach Club, Late Afternoon

This is the hardest one to dress for. Sand, sun, a ceremony at five, dinner at eight. You need something that transitions without a costume change in a bathroom stall.

Hermès' silk crêpe slip dress in black or deep navy. The cut is 1990s in the best way — narrow straps, a cowl back, a hem that skims the ankle. It moves when you move. Heels here, finally. The Legend pump in black patent, or the Envol if you want an ankle strap. Bring flats in your bag for the last hour.

What Not to Do

Don't wear the Birkin to a wedding unless you're the mother of the bride. Don't wear a scarf as a top — it reads costume, not outfit. Don't match your bag to your shoes unless both are black or both are neutral. Don't wear the Oran with socks, even sheer ones. Don't buy something new the week before and expect it to feel right on the day. Hermès asks for familiarity. It doesn't perform well cold.
